Build a clear, confident birth plan grounded in concrete, evidence-based options, so you walk into your birth knowing exactly what you want and how to ask for it.
Who this is for
A birth plan is not a contract, it's a communication tool. It tells your care team who you are, what matters to you, and what questions you want answered before someone makes a decision on your behalf. Families who arrive at birth with a clear, informed plan tend to feel more in control, regardless of how the birth actually unfolds.
Birth plan education is for first-time parents who feel overwhelmed by the options, experienced parents who want to do things differently this time, families navigating high-risk pregnancies with complex decisions to make, and anyone who has ever walked out of an OB appointment feeling like they didn't understand what was discussed. You don't have to know anything going in. You leave knowing enough to advocate for yourself.
What to expect
Birth plan sessions are personalized to you, your birth setting, your provider, your health history, and your values. We don't work from a generic template. We start by talking about what you already know, what you're uncertain about, and what feels most important to you. From there, we work through each part of your birth experience so you can make genuinely informed decisions.
We cover your birth setting options in detail, what a hospital, freestanding birth center, or home birth actually looks like and what that means for the choices available to you. We discuss pain management in full: the full range from unmedicated coping techniques through epidural and other pharmacological options, including how timing and circumstances affect those choices. Informed consent is a through-line in everything we discuss, you have the right to ask questions and decline interventions, and I'll help you understand how to exercise that right respectfully and effectively.
If a cesarean birth is possible or planned, we spend dedicated time on what that experience looks like and how to include your preferences in a cesarean birth plan. We also cover the immediate postpartum period, skin-to-skin contact, delayed cord clamping, the first hour after birth, and how to advocate for those preferences even when things move quickly.
Care philosophy
The most important thing you can walk away from a birth plan session with is not a document, it's confidence. Confidence in your understanding of what's happening, confidence in your ability to communicate your wishes, and confidence that you are a decision-maker in your own birth, not a passenger. Birth can and does deviate from any plan. Families who feel informed and supported handle those deviations with far more agency than those who feel blindsided.
My approach is evidence-based and non-prescriptive. I won't tell you what your birth should look like. I'll give you the information to decide for yourself, and I'll help you put that into language your care team can understand and respond to.
