Evidence-based safe sleep education so you can create a sleep environment you feel fully confident in, for every nap, every night.
Why this matters
SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) and sleep-related infant deaths are among the most devastating and least predictable tragedies a family can face. The good news is that the risk can be significantly reduced through specific, evidence-based sleep practices, and most families want to follow those practices. The challenge is that the information is often incomplete, conflicting across different sources, or delivered in a way that causes more anxiety than clarity.
As a certified Safe Sleep Ambassador, I provide education grounded in current American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines. My goal isn't to scare you, it's to give you a clear, accurate understanding of the research so you can make genuinely informed decisions about how and where your baby sleeps, and feel confident rather than anxious when you lay your baby down.
What to expect
Safe sleep education starts with the ABCs: Alone, Back, Crib (or other approved sleep surface). These are the core guidelines, and they matter. But there is a lot more to safe sleep than those three letters, and the nuance is where most families run into confusion, and where meaningful risk reduction happens.
We cover sleep environment setup in detail: what surfaces are approved for infant sleep and why, what items should never be in a sleep space, temperature and swaddling considerations, and how to evaluate whether the products you've already purchased are actually safe for sleep. We talk through firm vs. soft mattress surfaces, inclined sleepers (many of which have been recalled and remain in use), and the common but dangerous practice of letting a baby sleep in a swing, bouncer, or car seat outside of car travel.
Room-sharing versus bed-sharing is one of the most asked-about topics in safe sleep. I cover what the research actually says about both, the specific conditions under which bed-sharing risk increases significantly, and how to make room-sharing practical so that you can stay close to your baby without sharing a sleep surface. You get an honest, evidence-based answer, not a blanket prohibition or unqualified permission.
We also address the myths and misinformation that circulate constantly among new parents: that tummy sleeping is fine because grandparents did it, that sleep positioners prevent SIDS, that a baby who spits up needs to sleep on their side. I give you the research behind each of these, clearly and without condescension, so you can evaluate what you hear from well-meaning family members or social media with accurate knowledge behind you.
Care philosophy
Safe sleep education is not a premium add-on, it is something every family with a newborn should have access to. I'm certified because I believe that, and I include this education as part of the doula care I provide. You shouldn't have to navigate the research alone, parse contradictory advice, or feel guilty about not knowing things you were never clearly taught.
I also understand that life is complicated. Some families are managing extreme sleep deprivation, mental health challenges, or living situations that make ideal sleep arrangements difficult. I approach those realities with compassion and practical problem-solving, not a lecture. The goal is always to help you move toward safer sleep in a way that is actually sustainable for your family.
